Leathers & Associates is a family-owned business and the leader in the field of community-built playgrounds. They have worked closely with communities to build more than 1,600 unique, one-of-a-kind projects. With 30 years experience and an excellent record of providing safe, well-designed playgrounds each project is custom designed and built on site using volunteer labor. Leathers begins with children’s imaginations on Design Day and create a playground composed of their dreams ensuring that each design is original and unique.
All designs are carefully developed, drawn, and built to meet the guidelines and standards for playground safety established by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and American Standards for Testing and Materials (ASTM). All designers, project managers, and construction consultants are nationally Certified Playground Safety Inspectors.
Leathers believes in providing shoulder-to-shoulder play opportunities for children of all abilities and will meet or exceed accessibility standards for playgrounds. The playgrounds provide access by ramp, transfer, and groundcover systems that conform to ASTM and proposed ADA playground accessibility standards. Each custom design and adaptable construction system render is uniquely able to design playgrounds that can incorporate a very broad range of accessibility needs and objectives.
All projects use the highest quality materials available. The playgrounds are built with a combination of structural plastic and plastic composite lumber and arsenic-free pressure-treated lumber for communities that prefer wood. All of the hardware has high-quality exterior coatings. Safety surfacing meets ASTM standards for impact attenuation and accessibility.
Leathers wants to make sure that all playgrounds are properly maintained, and will work with the communities for the life of the projects to maximize the longevity of the structures. Leathers will provide the community with extensive maintenance information. Their in-house maintenance team is available by phone for the life of the project.
