Word of mouth is the best way to let people and businesses know that you support the Sycamore Park Project. If you are a store owner you can show your support by printing our poster and displaying it in your window &/or store. You can contact Leslie at (415) 388-2670, fax (415) 388-5293 and someone on our committee will bring you a poster.

Pledging your time
Giving your time can be one of the most rewarding ways to participate in a community project like this, and we need plenty of community volunteers to join us to make this project a reality. Below is a list of our Sycamore Park Steering Committees where we could use your time. Some of these are leadership roles and some are support roles. However you’d like to get involved is welcome! Or, if you'd like to be part of the actual park build, click here for more information or contact Andrea and Kristen - (415) 388-2670, fax (415) 388-5293

General Coordinator (GC) (1 position available)
GC’s must be willing to make the project a priority, if necessary, setting aside other commitments to work on it. You must be able to arrange your daily schedule to allow frequent contact with other coordinators and with the Leathers and Associates office.

Build Week Captains (10 position available)
Build Week Captains work alongside the construction consultants, overseeing and instructing crews and helping to maintain quality. They make it possible for Leathers’ consultants to keep hundreds of volunteers working efficiently. Strongly committed captains take care of the details that make working on a project fun, safe, and productive. This role does not require a construction background. If you enjoy leading people and keeping them excited and focused, then this is the job for you. Build dates are June 21-26, 2006. Ideally captains would be there for all 5 days.

Coordinators for Childcare (3 position available)
These people will coordinate and supervise childcare and arrange activities for children during construction -- Wednesday, June 21, 2006 through Sunday, June 26, 2006. At least one person with a connection to a preschool or elementary school is helpful.

Volunteers for the Children’s Committee (two people)
The children’s committee serves as a liaison between the steering committee and all of the children in the schools. Two people who are good with children should head this committee. It’s helpful if one is a current or former local teacher.

Coordinators for Donated Materials (2 position available)
Individuals should not work in the construction industry. The most successful coordinators are people who aren’t familiar with construction processes and materials. They must be willing to scrounge, and they must be people who won’t take “no” for and answer. They should be creative and resourceful. Many of the responsibilities of this position must be accomplished during regular business hours, so these coordinators must have very flexible day-time hours.

Volunteers for Food (2 position available)
These individuals will take charge of acquiring food and organizing meals for workers during construction – Wednesday, June 21 through Sunday, June 26, 2006. Individuals should not be professionals in the food-preparation industry, as this often can interfere with the grassroots nature of your effort. Some experience in organizing church dinners, potlucks and the like is helpful.

Volunteers for Fundraising (1 positions available)
You’ll need two people to coordinate this area with several assistants willing to take charge of individual fundraisers. Recruit for to six people for this committee before Design Day. For larger projects, it is essential for one of the people to have some experience with corporate and foundation fundraising. Also, thousands of dollars will come in—and go out---so it’s valuable for one committee member to have some bookkeeping knowledge.

Coordinator for Public Relations (positions available)
These people must be organized and persistent, with good follow – through. Some experience in media would be helpful. This is a terrific opportunity for newspaper, TV, and radio attention.

Coordinator for Purchased Materials (1 position available)
Individuals who head up this area should be familiar with buying practices and the network of companies that supply materials. He or she should also be organized and have an eye for detail. Contractors, builders, and employees of hardware stores or lumberyards make excellent coordinators for purchased materials.

Volunteers (positions available)
This is a crucial position. A community-built project needs the help of volunteers at every stage. Two or more people will coordinate the efforts of many others, particularly during the last stages of your project when the call-a-thon takes place. It helps to have a detail-oriented person to keep track of volunteer numbers and contact information. On larger projects, the best way to structure this committee is for one person to head it up with four to six people in charge of separate areas such as individuals, corporations, service groups, miscellaneous groups, and the call-a-thon. All subgroup heads should be at Design Day.
